Go beyond the first feeling

What are you really feeling?

“Happy.” “Sad.” “Angry.” “Stressed.” Those words are useful places to start—but they rarely tell the whole story.

The CircleUp® Feeling Wheel™ helps people move from broad emotions toward more specific language, creating more clarity for reflection, communication, conflict processing, and understanding what may be needed next.

How it works

Start broad. Move outward.

The wheel gives people a visual path from an initial feeling toward words that more precisely describe what is happening.

Feeling Wheel showing inner middle and outer emotion layers
01
START HERE

Choose the broad feeling.

Begin at the center with the emotion that feels closest. There is no pressure to immediately have the perfect word.

02
LOOK CLOSER

Follow that feeling outward.

Move into the next layer and notice which words begin to describe the experience with greater clarity.

03
GET SPECIFIC

Find the language that fits.

Continue outward, notice more than one feeling if it is present, and use the words as a starting point for reflection or conversation.

A SIMPLE EXAMPLE Specificity changes the conversation.
Broad Angry Deeper Frustrated Specific Enraged

Why specificity matters

Better words can create better understanding.

When someone can move beyond “I feel bad” or “I’m upset,” they have more information to work with.

  • Build emotional vocabulary Introduce feeling words people may not immediately think of.
  • Slow the conversation down Create space to reflect before reacting.
  • Clarify the experience Describe what is happening with greater precision.
  • Explore what may be needed Use clearer feelings as a bridge toward reflection and next steps.
More than 100 feelings to explore
BROAD LANGUAGE “I feel upset.”
MORE SPECIFIC “I feel disappointed and let down.”

Built to be used again and again

This isn't a flimsy paper handout.

A facilitation tool that gets held, passed around, carried into classrooms, brought into sessions, and reused in groups should feel like a real tool.

Why three?

Because feelings work is often shared.

In practice, you may want one wheel for yourself and additional copies for the people you're working with. A 3-pack supports paired reflection, small conversations, multiple rooms, or simply having a backup ready.

Start at the center and move outward on the Feeling Wheel

A repeatable process

One question can open a much deeper conversation.

“How are you feeling about what happened?”

Instead of asking someone to immediately produce a perfect emotional explanation, give them something concrete to look at. Start in the center. Move outward. Pause at words that resonate. Notice if there is more than one feeling.

The wheel can support reflection on where someone is now and conversation about how they hope to feel moving forward.

Some of the places that need emotional tools most aren't built around screens.

Schools, restorative justice programs, juvenile justice settings, mediation spaces, retreats, treatment environments, and other programs may limit access to phones or digital devices.

A physical Feeling Wheel can travel into those spaces without requiring an app, login, battery, Wi-Fi connection, or screen. Pair it with the printable definitions guide when participants need additional vocabulary support.

I got one of these in a training a few weeks ago with CUE and decided to purchase my own to use with my teen. She surprisingly bought into it, and we've been able to have some pretty open conversations about her anxiety. I don't think I would have been able to have that conversation without the feeling wheel and the training. Thank you CUE TEAM!

Helpful tool for identify and expressing emotions just like it says. Sometimes I start form the outside instead of the middle but it's effective both ways. Good quality card stock too! Very sturdy

Durable and soft to the touch. Very good for kinesthetic learners.

Surprisingly soft! I didn't know I could be impressed by lamination, but here we are! I think the "soft-touch" adds to the tool itself actually. When you hold it you are reminded to be soft with yourself, and look deeper into feelings, which is often times hard to do. At least that's what I tell my clients ☺️

These have become very popular at my school. The students love to use it. This is very rare for educational materials and resources. I think its a combination of the soft lamination, its colorful, and visual.

I got these at a conference and turns out they are made right here in my hometown! Thanks CUE for making these. Pulling this out when one of my students was having a tough day really put things into perspective for her. It's ideal as a visual conversation starter!

After seeing my posters, my sister wanted these for her class. I let her know there was a standard paper size and ended up buying it for her. She said her students are now using it when they are in conflict.

There are a lot of feeling wheel products out there (shirts, pillows, chairs) but I wanted one that my students could actually use, not just for decoration. I am so glad I found this company because they made it! Great quality and fast shipping!!

I've purchased Feeling Wheel products in the past, but for some reason it's harder to just find print outs like this! These are VERY good quality - not your average lamination! The laminante is soft and smooth. It's like a more modern take compared to the traditional look. These are going to be very long lasting I can tell!

I've used feeling wheels before, but this one was very unique. Both in the word selections and the instructions to start in the middle. Very helpful!

Great SEL tool. I teach middle school and use these in our class. If there are words my students don't know, they either ask me, or they also discovered the QR code on the page that has definitions. Not only are they learning how identify feelings, they are expanding their vocabulary, and learning how to empathize with others.

This was a super useful tool to use with my teens. I had to be vulnerable and admit how I was feeling and use the wheel, and then they followed suite. I'm impressed how much it opened up conversation for us. My order even came with a gift. Appreciated that!

Easy to follow instructions. But sometimes, I like to start from the outside too. Very good tool for self-awareness. I find it helps me communicate better knowing how I feel.

I used the Feeling Wheel 2026 chart during a parent meeting that started out tense. I was stressed and honestly a little nervous about where the conversation was heading. I pulled out the chart and asked everyone to point to what they were feeling before we kept going. It broke the tension fast. The parent shifted from defensive to honest, and the whole conversation de escalated. The charts are clear, durable, and easy to use on the spot. They helped turn a stressful meeting into a productive one. I love that there were 3 in there too, we needed all 3 in the meeting one on the table and one that we each held.

I facilitate conflict resolution as an HR Director on a daily basis. Tiffany walked me through how to use this tool in our training and I tried it out and was surprised how much of a difference this made. We had to look up some of the words but it really helped deepen the conversations about feelings
